The Body Practices Music…

As a powerful tool for expression, the body is inseparable from movement, which is constantly shaped by our thoughts and guided by the mind. But which holds dominance: our thoughts over our bodies, or our bodies over our thoughts and psyche? When listening to music, we may find our body naturally responding through spontaneous, unplanned movements—be it a facial expression, a tapping foot, or a flick of the hand. These movements, initially uncoordinated, stem from deep, momentary emotions. As the body syncs with the rhythm, it aligns with the beats of music, the sounds of nature, or the imagery drawn from our perceptions and inner fantasies of the world around us. This resonance then expresses itself through movement and form. In this interplay, sometimes our gestures and forms seem to compose the music, while at other times, the melodies shape our movements, creating a singular expression of motion. How, then, can we uncover and nurture the essence of our being through this unique movement expression, both in ourselves and in our inner child? And why does this matter?

This project is an inquiry into the profound relationship between the mind and body, exploring movement as a primary language of our being. It questions the traditional hierarchy of thought over action by observing how the body, in its spontaneous response to music, nature, and emotion, reveals a deeper, unfiltered self.

The work delves into this interplay, where gestures and melodies seem to compose one another, to discover the essence of our being and nurture the “inner child” that resides within. It is a testament to the belief that through this unique expression of motion, we can find a profound connection to ourselves and uncover truths that words alone cannot convey.

Blooming To The Core

For me, improvisation is a beginning — the birth of something unplanned, something that rises before thought has time to shape it. Improvisation is the journey from surface to depth, like peeling an onion layer by layer until you reach its hidden flower. It may sting, it may bring tears, but it is honest — the place we return to when we need to truly see.
Improvisation is awareness. It is connecting to the centre, listening inward, receiving, and then allowing whatever needs to surface to come forward and be witnessed. In many ways, life itself is a series of improvisations — each one sparked by returning to the centre, each one a fresh beginning.

This collaboration with Mexican photographer Arturo Bijar, who has over twenty years of experience, was built on that same understanding of improvisation. We met during his trip to London, and from the very first moment there was a natural connection — a shared curiosity for presence, rhythm, and trust. The images we created emerged from this exchange, guided by three simple rules:

Whoever comes is the right person.
Whenever it comes is the right time.
Whatever happens is the right place.

We trusted these principles fully. While we shared our ideas and artistic intentions, we left space for the unknown — for movement to unfold freely and for the lens to follow instinct rather than expectation. The process became a dialogue between stillness and motion, between intuition and timing. When you release control and listen deeply, the right movement happens — and the photographer meets it at exactly the right moment.
